Start from a safe location
Do not climb onto a wet or storm-damaged roof. From the ground, look for gutter sections that are hanging, twisted, separated at corners or pulling away from the fascia. Also note downspouts that have come loose or shifted.
Hail can leave more than dents
Dents may be cosmetic, but severe impacts can distort the gutter channel, damage end caps or affect flow. The more important question is whether the system still holds its shape, drains correctly and remains securely attached.
Wind can change pitch
A gutter does not need to fall completely to stop working correctly. Movement at hangers or fascia can create low spots that hold water. After the next rain, watch for overflow or standing water where the system previously drained normally.
Heavy rain reveals capacity issues
A major storm can expose problems that were already present, such as clogged outlets, inadequate downspouts or concentrated valley runoff. Document where overflow occurs so the layout can be evaluated.
